Our Breeding Philosophy at Picabo
After researching a safer immune program, we have adopted the protocol recommended by Dr. Jean Dodds DMV a widely respected immunologist whose studies indicate many diseases experienced in a pet's life are the result of repeated assaults on the immune system from unnecessary vaccinations. We will certainly vaccinate your puppy prior to leaving our facility at any age you prefer in accordance with the protocol of your selected vet, but as a conscientious breeder we feel the responsibility to offer new owners the option of choosing . we highly recommend searching out a holistic veterinarian who will tailor your puppy needs for a lifetime of good health.
We believe in providing the highest quality nutrition as its extremely important in the growth and development of new puppies. We recommend only premium adult and puppy food with human grade ingredients. Our pups are introduced to solid food beginning at 4 weeks and allowed a natural weaning schedule as determined by the mother. We use Eukanuba Medium breed puppy in addition to a raw diet as well.
Children play a important integral role in the socialization in each of our puppies from the moment they are born they help play with the puppies the day they are born. The puppies are included in the happenings here, By doing this it produces a highly confident , well adjusted happy puppy ready to go home with you and bond with their new family .Our babies get lots of personalized love and care and this is reflected in them when they go to their forever homes.

Thank you for inquiring about my Golden Retrievers. I am very dedicated breeder who participates in various dog-related events but, primarily in the conformation ring. I breed occasionally to produce what I believe to be quality Golden Retrievers that adhere to the breed standard which are intelligent, and have the natural hunting, retrieving and swimming instincts the breed was bred to possess. I give priority to breeding for health above conformation issues, if the choice has to be made, I breed for health first then temperament.
I have decided against going to some of the winning dogs because of the lack of what I feel is good temperament. I strive to only produce dogs that are physically and mentally sound.
Through competition and membership in the national Golden Retriever Club, articles in magazines, books and the information shared via Golden and dog related email lists plus other Internet sources, I am exposed to other points of view, educational programs, updates rules and regulations and more importantly have an opportunity to share concerns, information and ideas with other concerned and knowledgeable dog people.
When I do have litters I try to make sure all my puppies are sold to loving committed homes. I do my best to screen the owners to ensure a good match between the puppy and the buyer. Before the puppy leaves my home, it has been well cared for and socialized.
The puppy does not go to it's new owner as a trained, well-mannered finished product, of course. It is up to the puppy buyer to complete the job we have started. The new owner is responsible for the further development of the puppies personality, through structured discipline, training, guidance and love. I am available to offer guidance with the care and handling of this pup and both encourage and expect that the new owner will come to me with any questions and concerns.
Before the pups leave here, they are current on their vaccinations wormed several times,.
All of my pet puppies are sold on a Limited Registration which means that if the dog is bred the resulting offspring will NOT be recognized or register able with the AKC.
We require pet puppies to be spayed or neutered not before 1 year of age, as the growth plates are not closed and this can cause problems in the long run.
I do reserve the right to reevaluate the dog and see if it is show/breeding quality. At this time I can reverse the Limited Registration to a full registration and each individual case is handled as the situation deems appropriate in my opinion.
As much as possible I attempt to evaluate each puppy's personality by observing them during their development. I also have fellow dog fanciers analyze the litter and follow structured evaluation and temperament tests. I attempt to match the puppy to the buyer to produce the best fit of puppy and family .
Prior to taking the puppy home, you will be given information on training and care of your puppy, a list of the proper equipment and supplies to obtain prior to bringing your puppy home. I also supply you with a puppy packet which shows you a picture of both parents, a copy of the pedigree, a sample copy of our sales agreement, clearances information on the parents, history of the parents competition in the breed ring and other information I deem appropriate.
I make every effort to ensure my puppies are free from inherited defects, by screening perspective breeding stock for those problems common to the breed as determined by the Golden Retriever Club of America. However due to complex genetic interactions and environmental factors beyond my control, I cannot guarantee that a puppy purchased from us will be free of genetic disorders. The puppy is guaranteed to be free of genetic or structural faults that would impact the puppy's quality of length of life. this would include, but is not limited to, conditions such as crippling hip displaysia or severe heart conditions that would affect the quality and length of the dogs life. It would NOT include mild problems that may be genetic but will not affect the dogs life as a quality pet.
Please take into consideration the costs of dog ownership and be sure it fits into your budget. You will need to allow for the cost of adequate housing, fencing, quality food and veterinary expenses. Also, this breed requires regular brushing and attention.
In a effort to ensure that my puppies are going to receive the love and care they will require throughout their lives I ask all potential buyers to complete this questionnaire. If you wish to be put on our waiting list you must complete and return the questionnaire to me. If you would like to speak to me in person, please feel free to call me at 732-239-2499. Mornings are best for me.
Thank You,
Barbara
